As a father of 2 kids, 13 and 10, I have had my fair share of Father’s Day breakfasts in bed and the menu and quality has differed significantly over the years. This year, I have to say, I am feeling pretty lucky as the bar has been raised thanks to my kids’ new-found interest in gourmet cooking.
So, I was delighted to find myself enjoying a delicious breakfast of eggs benedict with smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce and a glass of orange juice as I relaxed in bed on Sunday morning. The kids were so proud as they delivered my meal along with some very thoughtful little gifts. It got me thinking about how lucky we are as a family and that whilst we were in a lockdown, we were still ways to connect.
In fact, for me that is one of the most positive things to come from all of this. Time spent with family. But more than that, I have found new ways to connect with my kids. I have enjoyed camping in the lounge room, walking around the park, learning more about their schooling, dress ups, playing board games and of course cooking.
Father’s Day is a very important time of year for us here at CPS Dads & Kids. To us it’s so much more than just breakfast in bed and a few little gifts. It’s about celebrating our bonds and finding new ones. We hope you have all had the chance to find new ways to connect with your kids and we hope that these new bonds endure as we make our way out the current lockdown.
Have a wonderful week.
